Are you looking to buy, rent, or sell a harp in
New Zealand?
Here are my suggestions:
RENTING
If you’re wanting to rent a harp your best bet would be to contact the editors of the journal/newsletter for The Harp Society of New Zealand, Pip and Bruce Ferguson at ferguson@xtra.co.nz, who can place an ad in the next harp society’s newsletter or journal. These are published four times a year.
Another option would be to check the society’s website at www.harp.org.nz and check the Notice Board. You can contact Anne-Gaelle Ausseil, the website administrator, at info@harp.org.nz if you wanted to place an ad there yourself.
BUYING (new)
There are several harp makers in New Zealand that I am aware of. The following are harp makers I have either heard of or dealt with in New Zealand:
1. Harps of The South www.harps.co.nz
Harp maker Keith Harrison
196 St Andrews Road
Plimmerton
Porirua city
Phone: (04) 233-8173
Fax: (04) 233-8178
e-mail: harrisonkh@paradise.net.nz
Keith makes lever harps to order, ranging from 22 to 43 strings, although he usually has a few in stock, whether it be a harp kitset (22-26 strings), or a completed harp
2. Kim Webby would be the only harp maker in New Zealand I know of who makes pedal harps. If you’re after a truly New Zealand pedal harp, built to concert standards, contact Kim at the following:
28 Cockburn Street
Onerahi
Whangarei
Phone/fax: (09)436-0185
His sister, CSO principal harpist Helen Webby, plays one of his pedal harps and it is absolutely beautiful in sound and design!
3. The only other harp maker I know of is Davy Stuart in Christchurch. He is a luthier and makes other instruments as well. His website address is www.stuart.co.nz
4. Then there is Lewis Eady Ltd in Auckland, the only Music Shop in New Zealand that imports lever and pedal harps. Their biggest seller is the Aoyama brand, which they import from Japan, however they can order Camac from France or Lyon and Healy from the United States, although these can take much more time.
The person to contact is John Eady (senior) at steinway@lewiseady.co.nz. Check out their website at www.lewiseady.co.nz
BUYING (second hand)
Apart from the Harp Society’s website as mentioned above, I suggest checking www.trademe.co.nz, as there have been harps for sale on there from time to time, sometimes as many as four at one time!
SELLING
Once again try the Harp Society’s website, their journal/newsletter, or Trade me!
Are you looking to buy a harp overseas?
There are several websites to try, including the Sylvia Woods Harp Center at www.harpcenter.com. Just type in the words “harps to buy”.
Oh Yes! Please mention my name, Nancy Brough, and where you got this contact information from - harpmagic.co.nz. Thank you.
